We are a group of animal lovers that are passionate about animal welfare. Many dogs and other animals are abandoned and uncared for, or even badly treated and we would like to see a stop to this. We hope that this blog can serve as an education for animal and pet owners, encouraging people to rehome dogs and other animals rather than just getting them from a pet shop or breeder.
We know that sometimes people will want to buy from a breeder so we will also be adding resources and tips for those that do want to do so, to let them know what to look out for and what to avoid in breeders.
We also want to encourage everyone to think very carefully when buying pets from a pet shop. Some pet shops make good choices for small animals such as hamsters, fish and rabbits. Very few pet shops should be trusted to sell you animals like cats and dogs where you will most likely not see the mum and dad of the animals and this is crucial with these type of pets.
Even hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and other small animals should come from a good source. You may find that a pet from a bad pet shop will always be afraid of humans or untrainable and therefore bad for them and bad for you. As a simple guide when looking at the pet shop, do the cages and accessories seem clean? Do the pets have access to fresh water and appropriate food. Do the staff seem knowledgable about the animals.
If you have any questions about animal welfare please do get in touch with us as we would love to hear from you and help you out.
